Show Lady T-birds in Gymnastic Meet Two meets in two days will finally give Southern Utah State Colelge's women's gymnastics team some of the competition they have been looking for. The combination of a lull in the schedule and transportation tran-sportation problems has kept the Thunderbird gymnasts out of action for nearly a month since their initial competition. SUSC will compete in a four-team meet Friday nigfht at Pueblo, Colorado. The meet will be hosted by University of Soutehrn Colroado. Saturday night the i T-Birds will go up against seven other schools at Denver in the Denver University Invitational. "We know that the competition com-petition will be good, especially in the Denver meet," Kathryn Berg, SUSC coach, indicates. "We are really untried this season. I can tell that we are improving im-proving in practice; how that relates to our meet perforamnce, nobody knows." Expected to earn points for the Thunderbirds are all-around all-around performers Janet Howell (sophomore from Riverton) and Debbie Johnson (sophomore from Parumph, Nevada). SUSC vaulters have also looked good in practices. Vaulters include Howell, Johnson, Mary Damiani (junior from Chicago Heights, 111.), and Leslie Edwards (sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev.). "Our other gymnasts are improving too," Berg says. "These meets will help us know just how we compare with the other schools and what we will need to do to best prepare for conference and region meets." SUSC has a three-way meet February 23 at Price before the March 1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Con-ference meet at Cedar City and the March 8 Region Seven, division two, meet at Colorado Springs, Colorado. |
