Show Texaco Operas aired Saturday The "ham and eggs" operas, Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" will be broadcast Saturday, beginning at noon, over KGSU-FM, Southern Utah State College's student operated radio station. Both operas in the Texaco-Metropolitan Texaco-Metropolitan Opra Radio Network will be conducted by Richard Woitach. Singing principal roles in "Cavalleria Rusticana" will be mezzo-soprano Bruna Baglioni, tenor Juan Lloveras in his Metropolitan Opera broadcast debut as Turiddu, and baritone Cornell MacNeil as Alfio. Taking leading" roles in "Pagliacci" will be soprano Catherine Malfitano as Nedda, tenor Carlo Bergonzi and Canio, and baritone Cornell MacNeil in the role of Tonio. During the intermission between the two short operas, Texaco's Opera Quiz will be held, once again with a panel of opera experts facing Quizmaster Edward Downes. |
