Show CHS Matmen end Season at State Nemelka of West by a pin. His second loss came in a close 3 to 1 match against Dean Kitchen of American Fork and he finished out the competition with a tough 3 to 2 win over Robert Johnson of Davis for the fifth place finish. Other members of the Redmen squad participating included Clarence Gray at 108, Dave Lopour at 170 and Bob Miller in the unlimited divison. Gray took on the eventual state champion from Box Elder, Stewart Richards in his opening match and lost by a pin. He came back to defeat Dwight Griffin of Bountiful 11 to 4 and was eliminated from the tournament tour-nament with a 4 to 0 decision at the hands of Garth Hayes of Cyprus. Dave Lopour, who entered the meet .with the best record for the Redmen ran into tough competition in his opening rond losing to Bill Bedell of Uintah 10 to 4 in the opening round. He came back to score pins over Andy Hardy of Pleasant Grove and Mike Green of Highland, but finished out the competition com-petition losing a close 8 to 7 match ot Greg Schuller of Davis for a tournament placement. In the heavyweigvht division Miller suffered two straight losses and early elimination. He lost his openign match to Don Smith of Highland and his second match to Richard Reid of . Bear Riv er. Both were by pins. Dirk Lopour, wrestling at 165 pounds picked up a fifth place finish in the state 3A tournament held this past week on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City. Four members of the young Cedar City mat squad participated in the state tournament and garnered a total of 19V2 points. Dirk's fifth place was the highest finish for the Red-men Red-men in the tournament that was won by perennially tough Uintah. In capturing fifth place Dirk had to wrestle six matches picking up four wins and two losses along the way. Dirk opened the competition com-petition 10 to 6 loss to the hands of Cal Robbins of Wood's Cross. Dirk bounced back to capture three straight wins scoring a 13 to 4 victory over Brad Baxter of Pleasant Grove, defeated Mike Meldrum of Jordan 11 to 5 and then defeated Jody |
