Show Welcome to Weber State University Dear WSU Students; Welcome to the" '2005-06 academic year at. Weber State University! In just a few days the leaves will begin to turn in 'the foothills, the cool, crisp" chill of fall .mornings will beckon and we'll be back in the familiar routine of classes, extracurricular activities and social events. The school year begins with a new entrance to the Stewart Library almost complete, the Swenson Building currently being remodeled, and the Shepherd . Union Building renovation now in design phase. You have experienced changes in online registration and will continue to notice procedures that have'changed because . of our ' conversion to .. Banner software. We appreciate-, ' your patience with these projects as WSU continues to stretch and grow in many ways. Those of you who are new to ' college life may want to join the First Year Experience program. FYE helps ease the transition to the university. You will take classes with a learning comrrmnity of other students who are new and learn about study skills. Faculty advisors will provide guidance on I 1 , n i 5 ' z 1 s F. Ann Millner Weber State University president choosing a major and a career in a course called "Educ 1005 Introduction to the University." The FYE program provides the personal assistance that has become the hallmark of students' educational experience at WSU. WSU provides many opportunities to enhance your education by working closely with faculty. Some of your fellow WSU students are working with faculty who are examining brain chemistry and its effects on biorhythms and fatigue among pilots, studying the anatomy of songbirds to better understand the muscles related to speech in birds and humans and collaborating with government and nonprofit agencies on community problems. I would encourage you to seek out these opportunities, as they provide valuable learning experiences and may lead to employment or acceptance in graduate or professional schools after graduation. This fall, members of the WSU community will participate in many activities outside the classroom including football, soccer and volleyball games, the annual Mt. Ogden Hike, the Families Alive Conference, the alumni 5k race, homecoming and sports, academic and student organizations. As you embark on a new semester, make new friends and renew acquaintances, whether on the Ogden or Davis campus, take a moment to savor the sense of community and connection that exists at this university. And never forget that you are a Wildcat! Though many of us come from different backgrounds we're all here for one purpose and that is to obtain a college degree. I commend you for your hard work and commitment and hope you succeed in your various fields of study. Recently, the departments of student activities and student government merged into one. Now that our department is a united entity, we're anticipating one of the greatest years ever! We hope to enhance your college experience through more opportunities of involvement, better activities and a higher level of communication. We invite you to our opening football game this Saturday. We hope to fill the stadium with 19,000 people! This will set tire pace for the rest of the year. Although we are faced with a plethora of challenges this year, we are optimistic andlookforward to implementing and improving programs such as: Recycling, service learning, eliminate the taxation of textbooks, online teacher evaluations and more school tradition. Again, we appreciate your support to Weber State University and hope each of you may have an exciting school year as you learn and grow. GO WILDCATS!
