Mrs. Ellen Bentley, clerk of the county draft board, reports that this county now has 517 registered regis-tered with the board who are now in the armed services of the United States. This number was as of April 17. They are divided as follows: Army, 361; Navy, 73; Marines, 3; National Guard,' 79; Coast Guard, 1. When questioned ques-tioned recently as to how many he estimated that it will be necessary nec-essary to call into the service ; in order for this county to meet its share of the total Armv nut- lined by the generals, Judge Le-, Le-, Roy Cox, chairman of the board, j stated that he thought we would j have to have around 250 more j from this county. Of that number approximately one-third would be youngsters who would come of draft age and" the balance would have to be met with married men. . . . You can readily see that this will make a real hole in the manpower of this county. |
