Show Stock Raising- W. B. Mathis, who holds a classification clas-sification of "stockman" under Rotary classification, gave an interesting in-teresting talk on the growth and improvement of methods used in the production of pounds of beef on the hoof. He started with the arrival of the pioneers with their few cattle, and earned through the formation of the church cooperative co-operative herds on down to the present day. One of the most interesting features as told by W. B. was the way in which the cattle have been made to produce extra pounds per animal. He read figures released by one of the big ranches in Arizona showing that in the late 1920s they were riming rim-ing over 1S.000 head on their land and producing a little over two million pounds of beef a year. Then he followed down) through the years showing howl they decreased the number of stock with very little decrease in the number of pounds of meat produced until at the present time with slightly over 6.000 head of cattle they are producing more pounds of beef than the company did with its better than 1S.000 head. . . . He went on to explain ex-plain that just about the same improvement has been made locally lo-cally since the Taylor Grazing Act went into effect and the ranchers have fenced their property prop-erty and are now breeding their stock to better meat animals. Also a big improvement is credited to better methods of feeding and shipping the animals.
