Show Poppy Day Set for May 4th By Legion Auxiliary Grade School Children Enter Many Fine Posters In Poppy Contest The 1943 Poppy Day drive for the local American Legion Post has been set for Tuesday, May 4, announces Mrs. Alice W. Milne, publicity chairman. The Auxiliary members will be out early that day with their poppies and are counting on the usual response from St. George citizens, which has always put them over the top with this drive, and for which they express appreciation in advance. ad-vance. At their April 19th meeting the Legion and Auxiliary had on display dis-play the many fine Poppy Drive posters entered in the 1943 contest con-test by local students and have selected the winners in Elementary, Elemen-tary, junior and senior high school departments. First, second and third place winners from elementary grades four, five and six are: Helen Harris, Ila Marie Lytle and Lorna Cox. . From grades seven, eight and nine are: ' Elna Huntsman, Zona Prisbrey and Karlene Nelson; Nel-son; and from senior high are: Audrey Morris, Klea Bleak and Mary Jane Crofts. These winning posters will now go to the state contest. Judges of the poppy posters in the local entries were Mrs. Grant Whitehead, Mrs. B. Glen Smith and Miss Gwen Sylvester. They report there were a fine collection collec-tion of posters this year and congratulate con-gratulate the students on their good work, even though all could riot receive awards. |
