Show Leavitt Family Given Credit for Having Largest Group In This Section In U. S. Services BUNKERVILLE, Nev. Honor for what is believed to be one of the largest family groups in the military mili-tary service goes to the late Thomas D. Leavitt, his deceased wife, Ada Waite Leavitt and his living widow, Luella Leavitt. They have 19 grandsons and great-grandsons great-grandsons in the various branches of service. Pioneers of Utah-Nevada This Leavitt family were pioneers pio-neers of Utah and Nevada, Thomas D. Leavitt, a son of Dudley Leavitt, Leav-itt, being born Nov. 8, 1857, in Santa Clara. At the age of 19 he drove a yoke of oxen with a load of lumber to what was then in Lincoln county and in company with ten men and two women started what is now Bunkerville, Nev. He died Aug. 25, 1933. He was the father of 22 sons and daughters of which 21 survive him. Two of his sons, M. S. Leavitt and E. S. Leavitt of Las Vegas served in World War I. In spite of her many years, Mrs. Luella Leavitt is still very j active and frequently makes trips from Bunkerville to Las Vegas to visit relatives. She is especially proud of her grandsons and great-grandsons great-grandsons who are doing their part in the present battle for freedom. Included in this 19 armed descendants de-scendants are Second Lieut. Ira Roy Earl, U. S. Marine corps reserve re-serve aviator, Cherry Point, N. C; and Ensign Don L. Earl, Naval reserve aviator, Corpus Christi, Texas, flight instructor. They are sons of County Commissioner and Mrs. Ira J. Earl of L'is Vegas. Wendell Moulton and Lee Moul-ton, Moul-ton, sons of Mr. and Mrs. L. Moulton of Southerland, Utah, are U. S. Naval reserves at the B. Y. U. Lists Names and Ixoa1lm Cpl. Cammeron Dee Leavitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leavitt of La.s Vegas is with the Army air corps, signal school branch at Athens, Ga.; Roland Black Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Black of Payson, is stationed sta-tioned at San Diego, Calif.; Wayne Sittle, petty officer second class, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Army reserve, U. of U., Salt Lake City; and Pvt. Jack K. Leavitt, with an M. P. battalion at Camn Wil liams, Utah, are sons of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Leavitt of Las Vegas; "Pvt. Wilford Robinson of Lewis Field, Denver, Colo., is a son of the late Elzina Robinson of Bunk- erville; Pvt. Arlo Quinton, at Ft. .Douglas, Utah, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lem Leavitt, Bunker-ville. Bunker-ville. Pvt. Grant Leavitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Leavtt, Glendale, Nev., is stationed at Fort Custer, Mich.; Pvt. Reed Leavitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Leavitt of '. Bunkerville, is also at Fort Custer, Cus-ter, Mich.;Darryl Leavitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Leavitt of Bunkerville, is at Camp Barclay, 'Texas; Pvt. Francis Hughes, is at Camp Kohler, Calif.; and Pfc. Owen Hughes at Arlington, Calif., both are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hughes of Mesquite. All of the above are grandsons and the two great-grandsons are Pvt. George Arthur Strasser df Camp Howie, Texas; and Dil-worth Dil-worth Strasser, inducted Mar. 20. These are sons of Mrs. Luella Pratt of Las Vegas. |
