Show Fourth Theme Featured In Sunday Night Sing By MABEL JARVIS The message of Independence Day was reflected in the vocal and instrumental music that made up the program of last Sunday evo-ning's evo-ning's community sing. Paul Thompson was accompanist and Marion Bowler swung the baton. A large crowd was present. Topping the special request numbers num-bers were several selections by the Martial band, each number being warmly applauded. SI. George has reason to be proud of this band, which was organized shortly after the pioneers arrived in St. George and has never been disorganized, although the present, membership is smaller than at any time. The same drum which Oswald Barlow used in those first days is still the company's big drum. There were also vocal duets by Russell and Glcnna Graff, which included, "The Flag Wilhoul A Stain", and "Lamplighting Time In the Valley". This brother and sister are winning recognilion. The program otherwise included songs from World War I, the Civil War period and present-day songs, besides favorites among the song hits of various periods; "Something About A Soldier", by Marion Bowler and the audience, and "The Star-Spangled Banner", as the closing song. Special numbers arc being arranged ar-ranged for next Sunday evening. |
