Show Beef Ration Point Values Hiked Canned Fish Items and Other Meats Also Increased This Week Ration point values for beef were increased one point effective this week, E. Eric Snow of the St. George War Price and Rationing board, reported today. The new point values, necessary because the amount of beef available avail-able for civilian use in July is expected to be the smallest since rationing began, places the ration cost of most preferred beef cuts at from nine to 13 points a pound. Point values on a few cuts of veal, lamb and mutton are raised from one to two points a pound. These include leg of veal, veal cutlets, veal loin and rib chops and similar lamb-mutton cuts. Canned fish items were raised sharpley to 12 points per pound an increase of four points. A total of 17 changes were made in processed food items, 12 upward up-ward and five downward, Mr. Snow reported. The reductions were in canned or bottled vegetables, veg-etables, with advances in seven vegetable items, and others in canned and bottled fruits. The changes, Mr. Snow reported, re-ported, come at a time when for the first time the actual flow of new production into trade channels chan-nels is expected to exceed the outgo. However, it is necessary during this new period, when new packs are being canned, to preserve pre-serve part of the pack for future months when fresh fruits and vegetables from the markets and victory gardens are no longer available in great quantity. Mr. Snow said blue stamps N, P, and Q are now valid and good through August 7. Red stamps P and Q are now valid for meats, canned fish and fats, and R and S are valid on successive Sundays all good through July 31st. |
