Show Small Hope Seen for Oiling of St. George-Enterprise Road Until After War Declaring, that while the county commissioners had designated the St. George-Enterprise road as the first one on the road program for the county for this year, Roy W. McLease, district road engineer, engi-neer, told St. George Rotarians last Friday that he saw little hope for any new work being done on this road for the duration of the war. Mr. McLease was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Rotary club last Friday in Dick's cafe. In making this statement Mr. McLease pointed out that it is very unlikely that there would be any oil available for surfacing this road. Also that any work done on the road for the duration dura-tion would have to be financed entirely by state funds, thus making mak-ing it very expensive for the state in comparison with normal times, when the Federal government would carry 72 per cent of the cost. He reported that the cost of oiling the road from here to Veyo would be about $72,000. lie gave no hope for any work being done on this road other than maintenance work. In speaking further on the Kn-terprise Kn-terprise road he explained that the road through the forest was under Federal control and that the Forestry department had all their plans ready to go and $110,-000 $110,-000 had been allocated for this work when the war broke out. He stated that this was one of the first road programs on tin-forestry's tin-forestry's agenda after the war. In telling of the road work to be done after the war, he told how 91 was to be rebuilt and made one of the Federal highways high-ways from coast to coast, lie explained ex-plained that they were making their surveys and laying their plans so that this road would be (Continued on page eight) Co. Road Program (Continued from first page) placed in a position that would be permanent. He stated that, the highway would not go through I towns, and would have only certain cer-tain places where traffic could join or leave the highway.
