Show Seen and Heard 'Round the Town By EDGAR Fine Rain Storm Dixie has been having a typical Puget Sound, Wash., rain storm the rain quietly comes down by the hour, sometimes being nothing noth-ing more than just a mist. Other parts of the county report heavy snow fall. Mrs. Austin Bracken dropped in at the News office Wednesday to report that they hadn't had the mail through Central Cen-tral since the Friday before. The road into New Harmony was reported re-ported blocked for a short time and good snow storms were reported re-ported at all of the higher elevations ele-vations in the county. It has really been a grand storm, one of the kind that Californians would start counting the millions of dollars that they would figure it was worth to the state. . . . It wasn't all rain in Southern California this time. Clarence Dahl reports that it took him 20 hours to go to L. A., this last trip, since they wouldn't let the cars through at the Cajon pass. He stated that there were 18 inches of snow on the pass and it really looked like the north country. He also reports that the road department admitted there was five feet of snow orr the ridge route between L. A., and Bakersfield. Basketball Sidelights Strange as it may seem to many who saw the Dixie-Cedar game last Friday night, I stil believe that both Hurricane and Dixie can beat Cedar. Coach Walter Brooks has a tall team which will help- against Cedar. In Ruesch they also have a player who can drop them from the back court, thus breaking up a close defense. Walt's boys have been improving fast, and it won't surprise me if they take the measure of the Redmen. In fact, I would rather see Dixie have to play the Red-men Red-men than to play the Typhoons. I believe that if they play the ball they are capable of playing that they can take Cedar's measure meas-ure with points to spare. . . . That game between the Flyers and Redmen was the first that I have even seen where one team only scored three field goals in an entire game. I doubt if there has ever been a Dixie team that has been off on their shooting that bad before. Every team is entitled to several "unconscious shots". You know, the kind that they throw in the general .direction .direc-tion of the basket from some poor position and in it goes. Not so with Dixie against Cedar, they couldn't stand under the basket all alone and drop one in. They tried and tried, but no go . . . The result was that Dixie had the pressure on them and Cedar could coast along, playing the type of ball that fitted their style of play best. Had Dixie been able to have dropped in a few it would have been an entirely different matter. . . . For a losing team, Kanab surely looked good last Saturday night. They played at a terrific pace and handled the ball beautifully. They seemed to be such good sports and enjoyed the game so much that a person liked to see them play. . . . Kanab brought its Pep club and band for the game. They put on a good show and added a lot to the spirit of the game. This was the only game they attended as a group this year. Their director reported that the club members said from the beginning of the year that this was the game they wanted to attend. . . . While Kanab trailed most of the game, in the second half they climbed within three points of Dixie and it looked like they might win, but Dixie hit a scoring spree at that point and ran away from them. |
