Show Britt String Trio Opens Fine Arts Program Tonight At Dixie J. C. Complete 2-day Program To Give Expression To Many of the Fine Arts The Dixie Fine Arts Festival will get underway tonight (Thursday) at 8:15, when the Britt String Trio gives a concert in the college col-lege auditorium. This internationally-famous trio has been given considerable publicity in Salt Lake this week, including a radio broadcast broad-cast over KSL, a concert at the University of Utah and participation participa-tion with the Utah State Symphony Sym-phony orchestra. .Mr. Britt has been guest conductor of this latter lat-ter organization. To Present A Concert .. Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock the music department of the college col-lege will give . a concert in the auditorium. This will be free to the public. The vocal department, under the direction of J. W. McAllister, Mc-Allister, will present the oriental cantata, "The Caravan", by Edmund Ed-mund Spear Hunt and Richard Kountz. The college and Woodward Wood-ward choruses are combining for this number; making a total of 100 voices. Soloists are DeLora Johnson, Loranie Jorgensen, Jay Huntsman, Vernon Short and J. W. McAllister, with Paul Thompson and Junior Gates as accompanists. Earl J. Bleak will direct two numbers from the combined college col-lege and adult orchestras, and Mrs. Janice Merrill will present Paul Thompson and Ila Holt in a two-piano number. Friday evening at 8:15, and again Saturday evening at 8:45, the Festival play, "The Green (Continued on page eight) Fine Arts Program (Continued from first page) Vine", directed by Miss Myrtle Henderson, will be presented. This is a mystery comedy typifying the attempts of the dead to communicate communi-cate with those who have been left behind. Cousin George Brand, played by Harold Hafen, is deceased; but as far as the dialogue is concerned he takes active part in the conversation. con-versation. However, his body and words are merely spiritual as far as the living are concerned until they realize he has a message for them. Other Cast Members Other members of the cast are: Betty Lou Stevens, Elwin Cameron, Cam-eron, Vernon Short, Joyce Kelley, Thelma Cox, Calvin Dalton, Rowa Allen, Anette Pendleton and Alpine Al-pine Prince. The play is unusual, but entirely en-tirely realistic and is filled with many clever comedy situations. The presentation Saturday eve-ning eve-ning will follow the Enterprise-Dixie Enterprise-Dixie basketball game. The annual art exhibit is now complete and ready for inspection. Those interested may view it at any time during Friday of Saturday, Sat-urday, as well as before and after the various performances. Ralph Huntsman is general chairman of the Festival committee. |
