Show Douglas Prince Given Outstanding Recognition Recognition is given Douglas Prince, former St. George boy now employed at the Clearfield Naval Supply depot, for his inventive ability and eye for increased efficiency, ef-ficiency, in devising a method of saving approximately 130 man hours per day in the operation of cutting out barrel heads. Attaching his new "radio jig" to the regular saw, Mr. Prince can cut out 1760 barrel heads daily, a feat requiring 17 days under the old method. Instead of 100 per eight-hour shift, he cuts out 220 barrel heads per hour. Mr. Prince, aged 21, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Prince, and has been employed as a packer at Clearfield Naval Supply depot since July 6th. He works in storehouse D-10 where nearly 75 per cent of the packing for the whole depot is done. Besides this time-saving "radio-jig" he has also perfected an "auxiliary jig" which saves 16 man hours a day in setting up forms for nailing material together. His interest has always been in woodwork, which he included in his one year at Dixie junior college, col-lege, and associate at the West high vocational center in Salt Lake City. He has a wife and one child and says he likes his work at Clearfield because of the opportunity to use one's initiative and to advance ideas which assist in more efficient operation. |
