Show Dixie College Piano Department To Sponsor Concert Here The Dixie college piano 'department 'depart-ment is sponsoring a piano concert con-cert on Monday evening, Mar. 6. At that time, according to Mrs. Janice Merrill, in charge of piano instruction at the college, Eugene Gash, prominent Negro performer will appear in St. George. The ability of Mr. Gash is well summarized in an issue of the New York Sun: "Though the race that has produced such sterling vocalists vocal-ists as Marian Anderson, Dorothy Mayner, Paul Robeson and Roland Hayes does not have an instrumentalist instru-mentalist to place beside them, there is more promise of one today to-day than in recent years. That promise was given last night by Eugene Gash, who demonstrated substantial pianistic talent, and, what is more, a number of the intangibles that are the essentials of artistry . . . excellent fingers, a true sense of style and musical discrimination." That was three years ago when Gash was 19 years old. At 22 he is now pronounced by some music critics as "the first great virtuoso pianist of his race." Mr. Gash has fascinated audiences audi-ences all over the country, and St. George is fortunate to be able to hear him at this time, states Mrs. Merrill. His program is classical clas-sical and will appear to the highest high-est tastes of those who love piano music. While in Utah Mr. Gash will also appear at the B. A. C. and at Snow college. In addition, he is sponsored by music lovers of Fillmore. |
