Show What We Want To Do An old Scotch saying runs: "You will do what you want to do, not the thing that you think you want to do". So it is with a community. A community that really wants to solve its problems has a citizenship that really wants to solve them. In a community com-munity there are members who really want to accomplish things, but as a rule they are in the minority, while those who think they would like to see those things happen are the big majority. Such a determination to do what ought to be done, such as beautifying the community, putting in cement sidewalks, curbing the streets and oiling them, getting a better lighting light-ing system throughout the city streets, promoting a live tourist program, promoting community entertainment backing back-ing the Dixie College in an effort to bring in sufficient students, stu-dents, and many similar programs can be put over if the people of the community are willing to set aside small differences dif-ferences for a broad cooperative spirit. To do this it will be necessary for all to set aside time for community work and set aside immediate pleasures for a sound future of happiness and prosperity. Do we really want to see these things accomplished, or do we just think that we want to see them done? We will probably do just what the majority want to do. Will it be walking on dirt sidewalks, having insufficient protection from loose stock for the home owner who desires to beautify his property, driving on dirty poorly lighted streets, et cetra, or will we have what it takes to bring this community up to the standard that it should be. |
