Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE Man's Inherent Duty To Man It seems to me as a rather grave reflection on the prudence of some of our preeminent citizens who soar in the higher brackets of society and who hold exalted positions posi-tions both civil and ecclesiastic affairs, af-fairs, to indulge so lavisly in solmen admonition of those who are forced, under circumstances not of their making, to accept government relief as a last resort to avert the horrors of beggary, crime or starvation. In the language of the Prophets they counsel those on relief to "get off the Dole" as if it were a disgrace to receive a bounteous gift from the hand of a kind and gracious government. Yea, they go farther, and call it a "Disgraceful Charity" and how strangely true that those same prudential nabobs, who pose as princes of peace and justice, and who express their love and sympathy for suffering humanity, hu-manity, are party to the institution which is responsible for these deplorable de-plorable conditions. Let those who are so liberal of their wise counsel to the oppressed oppres-sed be as equally charitable in the distribution of their worldly goods to the down-trodden of God's children, then bottle their stale wind, and there will be written on the pages of human benevolence a more pleasant story, and the soul of man will have cause to rejoice. Simmered down to its last analysis an-alysis it amounts to just this the phrase "Government Dole" was coined by cunning politicians and other designing men for no better purpose than an invective thrust at the person of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Roose-velt, the man who has waged the greatest humanitarian battle against the most aggressive forces of human degenercy ever known: who has uncovered more political and financial corruption: has put forth greater efforts to alleviate the burdens of the poor, and smiled smil-ed under the most insidious, the most envious, most disgraceful and distrusting opposition of all former Presidents combined. This is why the cods of the spoils system don't like him. To 'certain of whom I offer this reminder: re-minder: "It is not given that one man shall possess that which is above another, wherefore the world lieth in sin: for if ye are not equal in earthly things ye cannot be equal in obtaining Heavenly things." |
