Show Veyo CCC Camp Reports Planting of 4,000 Trees During the past week, enrollees of the Veyo CCC camp, under the direction of H. S. Kunz planted 3.000 ponderosa pine and 1,000 blue spruce tree seedlings on recreational areas of the Forest, it is reported by Forest Supervisor Super-visor Blaine Betenson. Of the ponderosa pine seedlings, 2200 were planted on the Pine Valley Recreational Area and 800 on the Enterprise Reservoir Recreational Rec-reational Area. The 1,000 blue spruce seedlings were planted on the Vermillion Castle Recreational Area in Parowan Canyon. The planting stock was received from the Forest Service Nursery at Monument, Colo. where most of the tree seedlings that have been planted at various places on the Dixie Forest in past years were secured, the Supervisor said. The survival of trees previously plant ed nas been very favorable, about 30 per cent of the total number planted. The trees will help to beautify the public camping grounds of the Forest, as well as provide better screening between camping spots, and at the same time help to protect the area from erosion and r'lood damage, and restore timber reduction on the areas planted. It is proposed to increase the amount of tree planting and range reseeding on the Forest land in the future. During the fall of 1938 and 1939, 1400 acres of range were reseeded with crested wheat, western wheat, smooth brome, and mountain brome grasses. Very good success is promised from this range reseeding, the Supervisor Super-visor reported. |
