Show Dixie College News The Dixie college band gave a concert in Kanab Wednesday evening. eve-ning. It was a part of the Kane county music festival. The Faculty Women's club, elected Mrs. Stella Bleak as president presi-dent in the election meeting held last Thursday. Other officers are Mrs. Louise Tolman, vice-president; Mrs. Laura Snow, second vice-president; Mrs. Vivian Spencer, Spen-cer, secretary, and Miss Anneliese Buggert, reporter. Miss Maurine Whipple will be the guest speaker at next Wednesday's Wed-nesday's orientation assembly at 11:30. She will tell of her experience ex-perience at the artist's colony in New York. She will use slides to illustrate her lecture. Ralph Huntsman returned Sunday Sun-day from Provo, where he and Mrs. Huntsman attended the operation on their son, Jay. Jay is now removed from the hospital hospi-tal and is getting along splendidly. He will return to St. George in a few days. Mrs. Huntsman is still with him. Miss Myrtle Henderson returned Sunday from Logan, where she attended at-tended the conference of the Utah teachers of speech. Miss Ruth Falck presented a number of her beginning students in a piano recital Sunday afternoon after-noon in the college auditorium. The college teachers express to the P.-T.A. officers and members, and to the students of the college, their sincere appreciation for the presentations made' last Wednesday. Wednes-day. Each teacher was presented with a beautiful potted giant fringed petunia. The cast of 'The Wild Oats Bby" enjoyed a social recently in honor of Lavoid Leavitt, who coached the play. Mr. Leavitt was presented with a beautiful shirt. Ross Hardy attended the meetings meet-ings of the Utah Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters last week end. He presented a paper before the biology group. Seth Harper explained the workings of the pipe organ and gave a number of solos at the Wednesday orientation assembly. Para Lee Wallace has been awarded a S25 scholarship by the Managers Business college for her outstanding work in typing and shorthand. The wiring of the education building is progressing rapidly. When completed the wiring will be fire-proof and will be strictly modern. J. W. McAllister will present his vocal students in concert Friday. Fri-day. May 17. His choruses will be featured; there will also be a variety of ensemble and solo numbers. num-bers. The program will be held in the college auditorium at 11 a.m. The seniors enjoyed their annual "Sneak" day last Thursday. They roamed to the mountains, following follow-ing which they participated in a swim at Veyo. At the recent meeting of the Lambda Beta Theta, college literary society, four pledges were initiated: Barbara Ray, Janice Schmutz, Orva Barton, and Delia Lee. The birthday formal will be held next Wednesday night. Dr. Vasco Tanner and Mr. Hay-ward Hay-ward of the zoology department of the B.Y.U. were biology department depart-ment visitors Monday. The college Yearbook will be distributed next week. |
