Art Dahl passed through St. George last week on his way to Salt Lake City on business. His sister, Mrs. Whitney Jensen, who had been visiting relatives in St. George, returned with him. Mrs. LeRoy Hafen arrived Sunday Sun-day evening from Denver to visit her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Woodbury Wood-bury while Doctor Hafen is in the east to confer with the Prentiss-Hall publishers regarding his text on Western history which will be off the press by fall. Mrs. Hafen attended the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Salt Lake City, enroute to St George. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Whipple and infant daughter motored to Los Angeles over the week end, accompanying ac-companying Mrs. Ben Jolley and two children, who have been visiting visit-ing in St. George during April. Mr. Jolley, who suffered a broken back in Pioche last September, is reported making steady progress toward recovery in a Los Angeles hospital. Mrs. B. L. Langford was hostess hos-tess last Saturday afternoon to members of the Readers Round Table. "Escape", by Ethel Vance was the book reviewed by Mrs. David Foremaster. Lunch was served to 10 members and three guests. All kinds of potted plants and cut flowers for your Mother's Day gifts at the Flora Greenhouse Green-house on Highway 91. Miss Julia Foster arrived last week from Manti, where she has spent the past eight months. She is full of praise for the many friends she has made in Manti. Mrs. Orpha M. Hunt arrived Sunday evening from Cottonwood, Ariz, where she has visited with relatives for an extended time. While absent she attended the Arizona State Pioneer celebration and visited in Mesa and Phoenix with members of her family. Mrs. Athe Meeks underwent surgery at the local hospital on May 6. J. E. MacDonald returned to his home in Kanab May 4. Lemuel Leavitt of Veyo has been a patient at the local hospital hos-pital since Saturday. Mrs. Kenneth LeSeur is here from Cedar City spending several days with her mother, Mrs. Ethel Milne, who is ill. Robert Pendleton and Harold Higgins spent the week end in Price with relatives. McDonald Armstrong returned from Cedar City Monday to resume re-sume his school work after having hav-ing undergone an appendectomy. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Pace and granddaughter, Penny Rae, returned Sunday from Tuscon, Ariz, where they went following an auto accident in which their son, Andrew, was injured. They report Andrew as recovering satisfactorily satis-factorily and that he is expecting to return to his school work shortly in order to be able to take his examinations in about three weeks. Arlo Prisbrey Is an employee at the Bank of St. George, having started to work there Wednesday. Mrs. Karl Shakespeare was hostess hos-tess Thursday to the NEB club at her home. Mrs. Ted Beacham won first prize, Mrs. Carlos Lortz, second and Mrs. Gerald Bleak received re-ceived consolation. Luncheon was served to eight. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Simmons were hosts to the Wednesday night bridge club at their home last evening. Mrs. Tina Macfarlane returned Tuesday from Salt Lake City. Mrs. LeGrande Spilsbury arrived ar-rived Monday to visit for 10 days at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Seegmiller. Boyden Kenworthy left on the late Sunday night bus for Salt Lake City to enter the L.D.S mission mis-sion home. During the week previous pre-vious he visited with his father in Culver City, Calif., where Mr. Kenworthy is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dalton motored motor-ed to Salt Lake City over the week end on business. Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Bleak spent Saturday and Sunday at their cabin in Pine Valley. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Jennings, their daughter, Lois, and sister, Mrs. Joseph Turnbeaugh drove to Salt Lake City last Friday. Lois returned to her beauty shop at Provo after spending a week in St. George with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Leany entertained en-tertained eight couples at Rook at their home last Friday evening. Lovely cut flowers for both Mother's Day and Graduation at the Flora Greenhouse. Grant Gillenskog, who has been employed for the past several months in the local offices of the department of soil conservation, returned to his home in Smith-field, Smith-field, Wednesday. 4 The Misses Marie and Deola Seegmiller and their friend, Miss Berneice Wood, spent Saturday and Sunday in St. George from Provo. |
