Show State sales tax gains indicate business growth Business activity increased in Utah after two years of slow growth, and better than expected sales tax receipts should allow the state to complete the fiscal year ending June 31 without any cuts in appropriations, according to the Utah Foundation. The report by the private research group showed sales volume, which was up three percent in 1981, was helped substantially wholesaling and manufacturing, service businesses and revenues from utilities, mining and building. The report stated that retail sales made up just 50 percent of the nearly $9.86 billion sales volume last year as measured by sales tax receipts. The three percent figure, which was adjusted for inflation, in-flation, compares with declines of 5.9 percent in 1980 and .5 percent in 1979, according to the foundations an- -nual report of business activity in the state. |
