Show 6f llcOxH tackle Kim Peterson of Palmer's Tire and Battery was a human vacuum out in left field during a game with Young's Paint in tournament action in Roosevelt, Saturday as he cleaned up the sky with numerous catches of fly balls hit by the Vernal team. Monte Lee hit a bouncer to Peterson out in left field and Peterson charged the ball and fired a perfect strike to the catcher. The powerful throw by Peterson forced Bill Smith to remain at third base with the bases loaded. The next batter, Bert Clark, flied out in the top of the fourth inning and a mighty throw by Peterson kept Young's Paint from scoring a run, which would have given them a 4-3 lead. Peterson also turned in an outstanding catch to rob Kim Oliverson of a double or a homer as a shot was nailed at the fence by the Palmer outfielder in the top of the fifth inning. Levi Smuin moved to second base on the sacrifice fly by Oliverson, but he died at second when the next batter, Brad Denver, grounded out. A catching failure by Peterson on the ball hit by Oliverson would have enabled Smuin to score all the way from first base. Jeff Alexander of Palmers must be watching a lot of baseball on television as he has his break-up-the-doubleplay-slide at second base tuned to perfection. Alexander reached first base on an error and Brent Fieldsted hit the ball to infielder, Danny Long of Young's Paint at second base. Long stepped on the bag for a force out, but was unable to complete the doubleplay as he had his legs taken out from under him due to a n excellent slide by Alexander. The slide by Alexander enabled Fieldsted to reach first base on a fielder's choice. Long encountered a somewhat soft landing as the bag was sitting on top of the grassy part of the infield. Alexander did a good job of breaking up a doubleplay and Monte Lee of Young's Paint turned in a good job of gaining a doubleplay. Bruce Todd ripped a shot to Lee, who nabbed the missile for out number two. Jay Omer was on third base but he thought there were 3 outs and in reality there were two outs. A few seconds passed before Lee discovered what was going on and when he realized there were only two outs he touched third base for out f number three and a doubleplay. Young's Paint was behind by sere runs, 10 to 3, going into the top of Ik seventh inning, but they shod Palmers with nine singles and n fielder's choice for seven runs and a i: 10 tie.
