Show For several years in the last column of the year we have listed some of the major' accomplishments of the year in the area, and what we would like to see accomplished during the upcoming new year. Activities that have had the most influence upon the community during the past include the following: groundbreaking ground-breaking for the Bonanza Power Plant by Deseret Generation and Transmission Tran-smission Cooperative, selling Uintah County Hospital to Hospital Corporation Cor-poration of America, construction start on a new bridge over Green River and a direct-route road from Vernal to Bonanza, continued work on a valley-wide valley-wide water and sewer system, and awarding the contract for the Tvzack aqueduct connecting Red Fleet Reservoir to a Vernal water system. Every year we list a few choice headlines we would like to see on the front page of the Express during the new year. Some of these for 1982 would include: "Oil shale companies develop a demonstration process for commercial production of oil from shale" and "Companies begin mining oil shale." "Approval given by state for the White River Dam and Reservoir construction south of Bonanza." "Construction started on the valley-wide valley-wide water treatment and purification plant built by Central Utah Water Conservancy District at point near Doc's Beach Hill." "Ashley Valley sewer improvement project completed with lagoons in full operation." "Water lines and storage tanks built to give the entire Ashley Valley adequate culinary water supply." "Uintah County breaks ground for a new 50-bed nursing home." 'Tar sands activities start work at Ashphalt Ridge, PR Springs and Raven Ridge, all in Uintah County." "Workable agreements reached between the U&O Ute Tribe and all local, state and national agencies concerning boundaries, water, roads, environmental and resource problems." "Plans continue for three Central Utah Project dams in northern Duchesne County, including the Upalco, Uintah and Ute Indian Units." Two years ago we listed the most important issue facing the area as the agreement on a valley-wide water and sewer system so EPA grant could be issued for the project. Two years have passed and the sewer project is still not completed and having problems. Maybe 1982 will be the year to finish the sewer project, we hope so. For the past two years we have also listed inflation, high taxes and interest rates as the major economic problems of the country. During the past year inflation has shown signs of slowing and a federal tax cut has been passed. Interest rates have gone up and down. We hope 1982 will be a year of economic stability with improvements in the building industry. Every year some goals are achieved and others seem to grow closer to solutions. We hope those projects can gradually be accomplished to add to the prosperity and quality of life in the Vernal area. And of course our last headline wish for 1981 is for a "Happy New Year, and may 1982 be even more prosperous and eventful than 1981 has been." Technicolor process for movies was introduced in 1922. It didn't become popular for another 20 years. |
