Show Preliminary census released for Basin area Preliminary population and housing counts from the 1980 census were released this week for the Uintah Basin area. Field operations for this area have been completed, according to Vincent Vin-cent P. Barabba, Director Bureau of Census. The preliminary counts are subject to revision and will be superceded later by the final counts which must be turned over to the President by January 1, 1981. The population counts for the three Uintah Basin counties totals 33,781 persons per-sons compared to 20,619 in the 1970 census. cen-sus. Population and housing figures for the Uintah Basin counties and cities are The temporary census office in Provo has been officially closed and completed com-pleted census questionnaires have been shipped to the Census Bureau's processing pro-cessing center in Laguna Niguel, California. There they will be fed through high-speed equipment which microfilms each page. The microfilm is then scanned electronically elec-tronically and the data from the forms is transmitted direclty to the Bureau's computers in Suitland, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.
