Show v wo goli? Journeys f The Ladies Golf Association is near-ing near-ing their busiest event of the season and preparations are being finalized. The Vernal Invitational will feature a "Low-Am" "Low-Am" this year, a first of this kind for the ladies on the Vernal links. The "Low-Am" is essentially identical to the popular "Pro-Am"', except that local low handicappers from the Vernal Men's Golf Association will be teamed up with four ladies to participate in an 18 hole "Best Ball Tourney". The invitational will be in full swing Wednesday, June 18, beginning with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m., a shot gun tee off at 9 a.m. and a luncheon furnished fur-nished by the golfing association, will be served at the close of play, approximately approx-imately at 3 p.m. Local ladies may sign up at the pro shop through Friday, Entry En-try cut-off is at 72 and golfers are urged to sign up as there will be golfers participating par-ticipating from Roosevelt, Vernal, Craig, Rifle, Rock Springs, Green River, Price and Steamboat Springs. The 1979 first place gross winners were: A flight, Betty Hart, 90; B flight, Virginia Garner, 95 and C flight, Dode Rolfe, 101. Eleven Vernalites traveled to Rifle, Colo., last Friday to participate in a three-day tourney. Helen Melton placed 2nd gross with a 92-94, three shots out of first place. June Dotson (Rangely) took 3rd net; and placing in the Low-Am were Gerrie Buckalew, Meb Wardell, Rangely; Elaine Gurr, and Jean Johnston. Noted comments were tha -the greens were a nightmare, being fay,' and unpredictable, claiming 3 and putts, attacking an otherwise likeabL score.
