Show Glen Canyon water releases to increase Boaters and fishermen should Ix-aware Ix-aware of increased water releases from Glen C'aynon Dam in Arizona. Water and Power Resources Service Regional Director Bill Plummer announced today. Average daily flows of the Colorado River lelow the dam could be more than twice as large as last year. Warmer summer temperatures are expected to greatly increase runoff flows into Lake Powell from the present rate of 50,000 cubic feet per second (cfs), with peak inflows reaching 70.000 to 90,000 cfs. Water and Power expects to open the spillway gates around June 1 1 to slow the filling rate of the lake as it approaches capacity. I-ikc Powell is expected to fill to its peak elevation of 3.7(H) feet for the first time by mid July of this year. In addition, the Glen Canyon Power Plant will begin operating at full capacity after Saturday, June 7. Daily releases of 29,500 cfs will then be run continually through the power turbines. Releases from Glen Canyon Dam spillways could increase the river's flows to lictwocn 40,000 and 60,000 cfs, compared to last year's rate of alxiut 20,000 cfs.
