Show Weight Clinic Responding to an apparent need in the community, Dr. Larry Wilcken will again start a weekly weight clinic which will run for four weeks. The purpose of the clinic is to teach people about obesity and how to implement exercise, dieting, and medication to achieve optimal weight control. A surprising number of people in our community have been going to Salt Lake City to be treated by an osteopath with diuretics, laxatives, thyroid, and speed. This treatment has resulted in several people being hospitalized for arrhythmias of the heart, nervous disorders, and in one case, an acute psychosis. State authorities, to the best of our knowledge, have closed these clinics at the present time, and they are no longer treating patients,. The attractiveness at-tractiveness , of these . clinics .; is a testimonial to. the. need for an. effective weight-control program and for this reason, I am offering these classes. The physiology of fat and how it is stored and broken down, etc. will be explained. A practical, no-nonsense diet will be given. The importance of exercise will be stressed. Behavior modification will be taught by Dr. Robert Vincent. Also, for compulsive eaters, a new drug has been found to be quite effective in curbing compulsive eating and will be used. This drug is the only one, at the present time, that has been found to be safe and effective. The next class will begin June 26 and will be held at the Uintah County Hospital Conference Room in Vernal. It starts at 8 p.m. and lasts for approximately ap-proximately one hour. The cost is ten dollars per weekly class. If you are interested in attending, please register by calling 789-5113. The space is limited, but a number of these seminars will be held. Also the graduate class time has been changed to 7 p.m. every Thursday. |
