Show Busy Session Held Tuesday By Chamber of Commerce Joe Garcia, Outstanding Craftsman nominee from the Moab area, was honored hon-ored at the weekly meeting meet-ing of the Moab Chamber of Commerce this week. Mr. Garcia was chosen to represent the Moab area in the state-wide selection of an Outstanding Outstand-ing Craftsman. He is employed em-ployed at Texasgulf, Inc., as a Journeyman in the Maintenance department. He was presented with a plaque by Chamber president pre-sident Dixie Barker. Also introduced to the members were new members, mem-bers, Verlyn Bentley of Bent wood Sales and Dr. Gilbert Preston. It was noted that 26 new members mem-bers have joined the Moab Mo-ab Chamber this year along al-ong with a large number of current members. The annual membership drive is continuing and all present pre-sent members will be contacted in the near future. fu-ture. Tex McClatchey reported report-ed to the members present pre-sent that during the Eas ter Weekend, a band of Mountain Men would be in Moab for their yearly rendezvouz. They will be camping on an island near Tex's dock, and will hold their rendezvouz at different dif-ferent locations. This will be their first time in the Moab area. The mountain men will have competition among themselves pertaining to the old-fashioned type of skills performed inyears past. Hatchet throwing, knife throwing and shooting shoot-ing are the types of competitive com-petitive events scheduled. The mountain men will be camping on the island in tepees and all will be dressed in clothes made of hides appropriate to the period they represent. The annual cleanup campaign cam-paign will be held as usual us-ual the week prior to the Easter weekend. Keith Peterson is in charge of the campaign and is looking look-ing for persons interested in working on this project. pro-ject. Next week's meeting will feature Gordon Bullock, Bul-lock, executive secretary of the Provo Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Bullock was scheduled to speak to the Moab group earlier in the year but storms caused a cancellation of the program. |
