Show Weekend Shop Action Placed Devils ' In State Tournament Competition The running Red Devils had a little help over the weekend as they placed themselves in the 2-A state tournament. That help came from the Mon-ticello Mon-ticello Buckaroos. The Devils needed a better overall record than the San Juan Broncos and the Bucks made it possible pos-sible that they had that record. The Devils were on the road in Altamont and winning handily as the Bucks dropped the Broncos out of the league lead chase. That win by the Devils and the loss by the Broncos Bron-cos assured the Devils ,that they will be in the state tournament starting start-ing on March 6 in Provo. The Devils were no slouch in their game on Thursday as they really romped the hosting Altamont Alta-mont squad. The Devils played fourteen players with twelve of them hitting hit-ting for points in the 80-63 80-63 win. The Devils ran off to a good lead in the first quarter as they hit for 23 points while holding the Altamont crew to only 9. Joe Fieldsted, one of the leading scorers in the region ten wars, was held to only two points in the first half and 14 points overall. Fieldsted was also al-so held to only two points in the fourth and final quarter. The Devils were never really in trouble throughout the night as they were able to control the ball and the tempo of the game. Altamont, however, is a good team that only lacks the tall man to make . the difference. Top scorer scor-er for the game was D. Thacker with 22 points, most of those coming in the fourth period. Bo Johnson was again the leading Devil scorer as he hit for 17 points in the game. Johnson, as well as other regulars, didn't see a whole lot of action during the game. Don Knowles, again putting put-ting in a good effort for the Moab crew, hit for 13 points and picked up seven rebounds. Junior Marlyn Wyatt, starting to look like a top contender, conten-der, hit the nets for 11 points and racked the boards for nine rebounds. Jeff Cathey led the Devils De-vils with rebounds, pulling pull-ing down ten missed shots and dropping in six points for the evening. Kenny Roberts hit for six points and pulled down eight rebounds re-bounds as he saw considerable con-siderable action under the lnminmmimiimmtirwrmmmnN Doaras. van Mays Sh ing a lot of action Z I I the past few weeks w V A the nets for 8 big nni V !
