Cal Wyatt and Monticello wrestling Monticello wrestling team captain, Moab Invitational Meet last weekend Monticello Tops the Field in Moab Invitational Wrestling Meet Monticello captured first place in the Moab invitational tournament with 100 points, the Devils Dev-ils of Moab fell to second sec-ond place with 87, San Juan was third with 76, and East Carbon finished finish-ed with 48. During this tournament, tourna-ment, the Devils never placed lower than third, however only two Devil grapplers. Matt Keogh and Paul Wyatt captured first place finishes. M o n t i c e 1 1 o took the tournament with seven first place finishes. The coach Joe Davis present Lane Fuller, with team trophy for winning effort in total first place ribbons ribb-ons went to Monticello, 7; San Juan and Grand, 2 each; and East Carbon Car-bon 1. The 98 pound class was taken by Russell Schaffer from Monticello, Monticel-lo, from Grand High Randy Bowen with a 5-1 decision over his man took third place. The Devils had first place hopes in the 105 pound division but this fell to second place when Robert Rob-ert Winder went down to a 2-0 decision by Monticello s Eldon Grand. Monticello again won first place points when in the 112 pound class Brent Muhlestein beat Chris LuceroofSan Juan by a decision. Miguel Mig-uel Sanchez took third by virtue of his 8-3 decision de-cision of his man. San Juan won their first place ov er East Carbon, in this class Mike Had-denham Had-denham of Moab pinned his Monticello opponent. Three overtime periods had to be wrestled through and a referees decision made on the winner of the 126 pound class as Dan Frost of Monticello beat Guv-Harris Guv-Harris from San Juan. The Devil's Mike Holy- oak won third by a pin. San J nans second first came when Lynn Redd decisioned his East Carbon man. again by a pin the Devils took third place as Stan Holland Hol-land put his man to the mat. Matt Keogh gave the Red Devils first place points when he got a slim 3-2 decision over Monticello's wrestler. wres-tler. Mitch Kelling was in first place contention but was pinned by Lance Fuller at 145 pounds. The Devils only other first place finisher was Raul Wyatt who decisioned decis-ioned his San Juan opponent op-ponent 5-3. Mike N'eal of Monticello surprised Gary Perez of Grand by pinning him in the first round. In the 185 pound class Jay West represented the Devils in the championship champ-ionship match, however, he fell to Derk Lovell of Monticello 6-4. East' Carbon's only-first only-first place came in the heavy weight division when Jim Leonard pinned pin-ned Wes Ing of Grand. |
