Show San Rafael Bridge Work Needed, Seely Tells Commissioners Robert Seely, representing repre-senting Green River's Chamber of Commerce drove fo Castle Dale to meet with the County Coun-ty Commissioners on matters important to Green River. Chris Jouflas and the county commissioners from- Grand. San Juan, and Carbon Counties were meeting with the Emery County Commission Com-mission to work out a better administration of the Community Action Program. It w ill be handled han-dled more closely by the County Commissioners Commis-sioners from now on. Mr. Seely then presented pre-sented his problem, stating that he came in peace, but the bridge across the San Rafael river at the mouth of the river was of great importance im-portance to Green River. Ri-ver. This is the bottleneck bot-tleneck for people want-1 want-1 -.o drive into the Can-v Can-v onlands from the west. This is an established establish-ed road. Seely pointed out. and has been used for a good many years. When the bridge across the San Rafael became unsafe, the county just tore it up and put in culverts cul-verts which were constantly con-stantly washing out. The road is needed now. and may some day be a very important entrance road not only to Canyonlands, but to Horseshoe Canyon and also to the Lake i Powell area. The Maze and Under the Ledge countries are also served ser-ved by this road. The County Commissioners Commis-sioners assured Mr. Seely that they were aw are of this bridge situation, situa-tion, although they had not known it was of that much importance. They had procured a Bailey Bridge from the State, and as soon as the weather wea-ther breaks, they will have it repaired in their shops and plan to install in-stall it. The County Commissioners Commis-sioners then asked Mr. Seely if he would help them w ith some projects in Green River. They are anxious to get the water pipe put in on Long Street so that they can surface the street. Since the contract for that will be let in the near future, that problem prob-lem will take care of itself. However, getting a dental clinic set up in Green River is not all that simple. Dr. Don- aia woage i lies in with Dr. Hooker on Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon, and while Dr. Hooker takes patients pat-ients at the Medical Center. Dr. Dodge has been doing dental work in a couple of rooms in the Bank Building. $5 thousand is available for equipment and repair or remodeling a building, but after the committee commit-tee from the County Commission looked ov er the Bank Building and the office building belonging to Howard Silliman. Sil-liman. they decided to use this for equipment, and solve the housing problem later. The County Commissioners Commis-sioners e p re s s ed g rea t appreciation for Mr. Seely "s concern, and for his help in getting a few-problems few-problems ironed out. Distance has been the enemy of county accord, and perhaps it might be a good idea to hold a part of the meetings in Green River, so that our problems might bo better understood. |
