Oklahoma, announced an-nounced today the award of a federal grant in the amount of S200 to the Moab Jaycees for a community survey to stimulate community services. The Moab project was one of 67 funded in the United States at the National Coordinating Council Meeting in Tulsa. Oklahoma. Okla-homa. October 27-28. Under the leadership of Chapter President and Project Chairman Ron Turner, the 17-member 17-member chapter applied for funds through Project Pro-ject Mainstream. Project Pro-ject Mainstream is a program created through a U.S. Jaycee partnership with the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity. Project Mainstream was designed de-signed to encourage a working relationship between Community Action Ac-tion Agencies (CAA)and Jaycee chapters to take advantage of the resources re-sources of 6.000 U.S. Jaycee chapters. With these resources it is believed that improvements improve-ments can be made in the lives of Community Action Agency clients--economically disadvantaged disadvan-taged Americans and in community attitudes toward to-ward them. Working with Daniel D. Johnson, Director of the Southeastern Utah Community Action Program, Pro-gram, the Moab Jaycees chose a project needed for community change programs. The community com-munity leaders and general gen-eral populace need to know the extent of pov- ' erty in the area, etc. before be-fore effective action can be taken. An estimated 1000 man hours will be spent on the project which is scheduled to extend through the spring. |
