Show Happiness Is a Conscience You Can Live Wifh A Utah Justice of the Peace was surprised when a man with a guilt-ridden guilt-ridden conscience came to him with a citation for killing a cow elk. He had turned himself in to a Division of Wildlife Resources Re-sources conservation officer, of-ficer, who issued the citation. ci-tation. The justice fined the man .$200 for the illegal il-legal kill. Two weeks later the same man returned to admit ad-mit he had not related all of the facts in his first visit. He said, "I did not tell all when I was here before. I shotat a two-spike bull elk, but it kept going. Just at that moment the cow came into view; and before I took a good look, I shot her. When I went back later, I found I had killed the bull, also." The judge told him to forget about the matter because he had no citation. cita-tion. "I can't forget it," the man said, placing his hand over his heart; "I have a feeling in here, and I have come to settle with you. My church tells me always to have a clear conscience." The judge then fined him $50 for killing the bull elk. The man paid the fine and said, again with his hand over his heart, "That will relieve me in here." |
