THANKSGIVING PARTY The Green River Senior Citizens will hold their Thanksgiving party Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizen's Center. Turkey Turk-ey will be furnished, and senior citizens are asked to come and bring the trimmings. After dinner Ross Harmon will show slides of Indian writings and artifacts in the Nine-Mile area. CLUB MEETS Birthday Bridge Club met in honor of Mrs. Grace Peterson. Mrs. May Wilson was hostess, and the meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Edith Gardner. The guest of honor walked off with high score, low was totted up by Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. Lucille Silliman took the traveling prize. The hostess served iovely refreshments at the close of the evening's play. TRAVELS Mrs. Virginia Stephens returned re-turned this week from a lovely trip to the east coast. She was joined in Nashville, Tennessee by Steve's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert West of Lubbock, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stephens of Rochester, Roches-ter, N.Y. Virginia traveled to Nashville Nash-ville by plane, but the other two couples drove. They visited historical sites in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Gat-linburg Gat-linburg and Cherokee, North Carolina. While in Nashville, they took in Grand Ole Opry and enjoyed it imme: sely. While in Nashville, Virginia stayed with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lonny Kiser and children Larry, Sherry, David and Danny. She states that while she thoroughly thorough-ly enjoyed the trip, it was nice to get back to warm, sunny weather, having experienced cold, rainy days in the south. GIRLS BASKETBALL The basketball season is upon us, and we hear the girls' teams will receive considerable consider-able attention now and in the future. Time was when girls played basketball regularly. The local library has been gathering together all the old pictures for a pictorial history of Green River, and Mrs. Harmon, Librarian, ran onto the 1910 team recently. Some of the names will strike a chord of memory in the older readers. SQUARE DANCERS ON CANYON KING Square dancers from Utah and surrounding states met at Hite over the Hallowe'en weekend and chartered the Canyon King for a trip on the Lake. There were five callers in the group, from Vernal, Grand Junction, Price, Panguitch, and Manti; and all day one of them would pick up the mike and start the dancing all over the Canyon King, both top deck and lounge. In the evening, the whole group gathered around camp fires for a dutchoven supper. Tex and Millie McKlatchey joined in this fun, also. Pat Wimmer of Crescent Junction, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Watterson and Mr. and Mrs. Clell Duncan. The weather was beautiful and everyone had such a good time that it was decided to do this every year. For local people, a beginners beginn-ers squaredancing class is just starting, and will be held at the school at 7:30 every Tuesday. After a few sessions, admission is closed, so that the group can move together into new dances for the winter season. GREEN RIVER GOING TO BOOM? Things are looking up for Green River with the sale of several pieces of property and new homes going up. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Holloway sold their place north of town to Mr. and Mrs. John Trujillo of Deer Lodge, Montana, who have moved here on a transfer by Atlas Minerals. Trujillo will work at the Four Corners site. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Curtis have purchased the Cottage Motel (Howland Motor Lodge) and will take possession on December 18th. Lowell has transferred his insurance investigation in-vestigation area to the five southern counties. New homes are being built by Mr. and Mrs. Coombs Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Bayles, with Gary Anderson to set up a Boise-Cascade on ? their property on King's Lane. Halls have sold their mobile j home on the Ross Harmon lot, j also. j Mr. and Mrs. Billy Howland t purchased the Shaner property 3 across the river and moved in a nice mobile home. 3 Mrs. Nolan Curtis has sold , the Frosty Circle to Mrs. Cecilia Acerson. RECEIVES AWARD Several citizens journeyed to Salt Lake City the 5th to attend the Continued Community Action Plan banquet and J award presentation. Green River was among the Second i Place winners. Making the jaunt were Mr. and Mrs. James Ramsay, Mayor and Mrs. Rey Lloyd Hatt, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ryan and Ben Behnke. BUSINESS MEETING Members of Beta Zeta Chapter met at the home of Phoebe Elsenrath on the 1st of November for their monthly business meeting. The group finalized their plans for their annual Christmas Bazaar which will be held on the 4th of December. Some of the members will be traveling to Roy, Utah, for the November Utah State Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha which will be hosted by Alpha Tau. Co-hostess for the evening was Helen Kiem and an Educational Report on Mental Health given by Judy Ann Scott. There were nine members and three guests present. PLEDGE CEREMONY Members of Beta Zeta Chapter met at the Arbon Cafe on the 3rd of November, where they enjoyed dinner. Afterwards After-wards they met at the home of Jolene Wright, Vice President. She performed a beautiful pledge ceremony in a candle-lighted candle-lighted room for the following new members of Beta Zeta: Jan Duncan, Helen Beach and Tamra Walker. A most enjoyable evening was had by all and the new members are a very welcomed addition to the chapter. |
