Show v - y V " . i i Hannah Pittman was honored by the Moab Chamber of Commerce this week by being named Moab's Citizen of the Year for her outstanding contributions of public service to people. Mrs. Pittman was presented with a placque by Slim Mabery, chairman of the Citizen of the Year Committee. She will retire as Grand County's Public Health Nurse shortly and was honored last year by being named Utah's Most Outstanding Public Employee. Hannah Piftman Named Moab's Citizen of the Year Moab's Citizen of the Year award for 1976 was presented Tuesday to Hannah Pittman, who will have been County Nurse here 21 years when she retires from that position early next year. According to committee chairman Slim Mabery, she was chosen for her contribution as a public servant to the community for many years. She worked in the old Grand County Hospital before accepting the position as county nurse. In that position she works with young people it each school, she is ther? to help with ill Ked Cross Blood BaiKs, and her telephone is constantly busy after hours giving aid to people who need her taowledge and skills. She is one of the first persons to call on the bereaved, and sometimes stays the light to help a family who has lost a loved one. She makes house calls to all the elderly to give them shots, or to just comfort and reassure them that someone cares. Those who associate with her in any way feel she is one of the best nurses this county has had, because she alway goes the extra mile. Mrs. Pittman's civic responsibilities have included serving on the American Red Cross Committee and the local boards of the American Cancer Society, Council on Aging, Planned Parenthood, Assistance Payments and Family Services. Serv-ices. She received the 1974 Outstanding Female Employee of the year from the Utah State Employees Association, first from the district then from the state association. She was given honorary Lifetime Membership by the Utah Conference on Social Welfare and is a member of the Utah Nurses Association and American Nurses Association, holding a current office in the local unit. Honorable mention in the Citizen of the Year contest goes to Bill Hines, D.L. Taylor, Betty Bowen, Helen Taylor, Les Frbes and Dixie Barker. |
