The 16-page 16-page book, "A Story of Life at Wolfe Ranch," depicts the life of the early settlers in " what is now the Wolfe Cabin Environmental Study Ar- I n r r- PooH Arrhpc' Unit Manager, said that Mrs. Newell's book, which was printed lbythe Moab Times-Independent and has been entered in a publications contest, adds significantly to the interpretive program of Arches National Park. "The time and effort expended were considerably consider-ably above Mrs. Newell's normal job require- ments," said Reed. Over a period of eight years' much of it on her own time, Mrs. Newell compiled all known written writ-ten material about the Wolfe Ranch, collecting newspaper clippings and letters, and conducting interviews with Wolfe family fa-mily members. Much of her research was original, origi-nal, such as developing a family tree, collecting Civil War records and discharge papers, and carrying on direct correspondence cor-respondence with Wolfe descendants. According to Thomas L. Hartman, Acting Superintendent, Su-perintendent, Mrs. Newell, New-ell, a long-time resident of Moab, is a "valued member of the National Park Service staff and certainly deserves this recognition." The book is on sale at the Arches Visitor Center Cen-ter and downtown Park headquarters. |
