Green River ft!ust$ Compete in Price Coolest By Jan Nielson The Solos and Ensembles Ensem-bles from the Band and Chorus traveled to Price Thursday, March 20, to compete in the Music Festival. Everyone from Green River who participated parti-cipated did and exceptionally excep-tionally fine job and many members will be going to state. Those who will go to state for competition will be the Girls Chorus, Mixed Chorus and Clarinet Quartet. There has been an epidemic epi-demic of track fever for I t ' - jr ) V r" : -V 1 ! Many students, both boys and girls have come out for Track and are practicing for the future Track Meets. There is also a Tennis Team which will be involved in a Tennis Meet around the same time as the Track Meet. A lot of work and effort is being put out, and everyone is looking forward for-ward to seeing a good showing at the Track and Tennis Meets. All girls interested in going to Girls State were interviewed last week, the girls selected to go were: Jean Wilcox, daughter ofMr.andMrs. Don Wilcox; Jan Nielson, daughter ofMr.andMrs. Wilford Durrant; and Conae Burr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Burr. Alternate: Terri Wilcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Wilcox. The girls are very excited ex-cited about going and are looking forward to an interesting in-teresting and educational educa-tional experience. This program is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary with May Silli-man, Silli-man, chairman. New Baby. . . Mr. and Mrs. PatMc-Gann PatMc-Gann (Barbara Bonine) are enjoying a new baby son born March 7th. He was 20 inches long, and weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces. oun-ces. The young man has been named Brian James and is the darling of grand parents Mr. and Mrs. James Bonine, and of Mr. and Mrs. James McGann of Hammond. Indiana. State Council Meeting. . . Judy Ann Scott and Vicki Anderson repre-1 repre-1 sented Beta Zeta Chapter Chap-ter of ESA at the Utah State Council of ESA at their March Meeting on the 15th in Moab. March Social . . . Beta Zeta Chapter held their March Social on the 17th at the Ray Sherrill residence with Reida Sherrill acting as hostess for the evening. The chapter was visited visit-ed by some of the State Officers including: Jean Kayburn, State President; Presi-dent; Jan Frisby, State Recording Sec; Muggs I'clcrson. Hike RideC'o- ordinator; Zora Foote, Welfare & Philanthropic Philanthrop-ic Chairman; Bobbie Long, Workshop Chairman; Chair-man; Jean Herstead, Alpha Al-pha Lambda Chapter; Betty Dravage, Alpha Rho Chapter; and Jan Hess of Green River. Nine members of the Green River School Band began the evening by playing two selections for the group. Then the Beta Zeta members served ser-ved a spaghetti dinner which was finished with a cake decorated as a rabbit prepared by Vicki Anderson. The tables were decorated with Easter candies and decorations. dec-orations. The rest of the evening even-ing was spent visiting and auctioning off white elephant prizes. $22.50 was raised from the auction auc-tion and the proceeds donated do-nated to St. Judes Hospital. Hos-pital. First Aid Class. . . Beginning at 7:30p.m. April 2 at the Fire House a first aid class will be sponsored by the Green River Dire Department. The class is open to anyone who is interested. interest-ed. The course consists of 52 hours. The instructors instruc-tors will be Jesse Powell and Jim Sauls, of the Utah Highway Patrol, who are also Fire Dept. members and qualified EMT's. Returns From Texas. . . A. C. Ekker, Pete Tooker and Pete Gibbs returned this week from running the Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grande in Texas. They had a group of 9 boys from Country Day School, and taught them mountain climbin, backing back-ing and river running. Pete Gibbs was in charge of the mountain climbing. He has been a boat man with Ron Smith for 12 years, and was leader of the Omo River Expedition last fall, which was a joint venture ven-ture of Grand Canyon Expeditions and National Geographic Society. He has climbed extensively throughout the West, in Wind River Mountains, Tetons,- Vosemite, etc. He will be teaching mountain climbing in Idaho Id-aho in July and August, but prior to that he has a couple of expeditions with Outlaw Trails, both in the canyons and on the ountains. While outfitting in the Rig Bend National Park, the boys visited briefly with Cindy Wilson, who is a Park Naturalist. After Af-ter coming off the river. A.C. Ekker and Pete Tooker made a swing around San Antonio. Fort Worth and Dallas, where they booked the elk and deer hunting for the Colorado Ranch up solid. They also finished the brochure on Great Outdoor Out-door Adventure Leadership Leader-ship Schools (GOALS) for this summer with Outlaw Trails furnishing instructors and equipment. Bicentennial Notes. . . The local Bicentennial committee held a meet-i meet-i ing on Friday , which was S- not very well attended. Some criticism was leveled le-veled at the speed with j which the meeting was 3 set up. with not enough j time to plan to attend. The next meeting will be April 8th, Tuesday, and ij every member, as well 3 as interested citizens, S is urged to attend. At ij that time, written pro-j pro-j posals for the two pro- jects now chosen will i be presented for a final j vote. One of the projects ; presented on Friday was the reconditioning and renovation of the Legion Hall. The second proposition, propo-sition, and the one which the attending members were desirous of placing in first place category, was the building of a City-County building.
