Show Be Prepared for Anything On Cane Spring Trip Cane Creek Canyon, a new trail added lastyear, will be led by RoyceHen-ningson RoyceHen-ningson this year for those who have short wheelbase 4-wheel drive vehicles. This trail is recommended for only the highly experienced drivers. driv-ers. The trail travels the length of the canyon from Hole 'N The Rock to the. Colorado River, and up the river to Moab. Leaving Leav-ing U.S. 163 just a few yards from The Hole 'N The Rock turnoff, jeepers enter the upper branch of the Cane Creek Canyon complex beginning this 6 hour route of twelve miles. mil-es. A narrow, eroded, bulldozed bull-dozed path is encountered high above the cleft that the canyon stream plunges plung-es down, which confines the route between the rock walls of the canyon. Slightly widened momentarily, mom-entarily, but then is forced forc-ed into the stoney stream bed on the canyon floor by erosion of the soil, the trail is a tough one. Thick tamarisk lines the trail from here along the muddy stream bed, and from here it crosses soft sand flats before dipling down into rocky canyon again. Those who take this route during the Safari should be prepared to help make trail repairs due to the uncertain nature of this trail. Shovels, heavy hea-vy duty jacks and tow cables or chains are a must for jeepers who select se-lect this route which will be limited to the first thirty who line up behind the lead vehicle on the morning of the Safari. |
