Show Cleanup Volunteers Broke All the Records High winds and storms didn't hamper the efforts of 136 volunteer cleanup clean-up drive workers over the weekend, as a record 73,-210 73,-210 pounds of trash was collected and weighed by Chamber of Commerce Cleanup Drive committee members. Under the direction of Chairman Keith Peterson, Peter-son, the 1975 drive net ted 65 truckloads oftrash and was some 16 tons more than was collected during the 1974 drive. Peterson said he would like to pay special thanks to the City and County crews; Bobby Hawks, Lyle Palmer, Wade Lan-drum, Lan-drum, Frank Tabberer, and Bill Green for furnishing fur-nishing men and equipment equip-ment to help in the pickup pick-up of trash throughout the city and county Saturday. Participants were served lunch by the Business and Professional Women's Club, and the club prepared pre-pared and served 106 lunches lun-ches to the volunteers. The groups participating participat-ing in gathering of trash included S-c-out Troops 802, 803, and 804; Girl Scout Troops 570, 617, and 666; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; CAP; JayTeens; Interact Club; and Community Com-munity Baptist Church. Peterson reported Girl Scout Troop 617 weighed weigh-ed the largest amoung qf trash, 9,440 pounds, and received the $25 award for the Scout groups. The Bov Scout Troop 804 recorded 7,860 lbs., and Girl Scout Troop 666 brought in 2,610 lbs. Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sor-ority took the 25 check for clubs and organizations, organiza-tions, with 8,450 lbs. Jay-Teens Jay-Teens weighed in at 4,870 lbs., and CAP, 4,820. The church $25 check was awarded aw-arded to the Community Baptist Church for some 2.120 lbs. collected. Committee members who headed up the cleanup clean-up effort, in addition to Keith Peterson, were Judy Ju-dy Carmichael, Manley "Bud" Lincoln and Norma Nor-ma Nunn. |
