Show Moab tracksters took honors in season windup By Robert Robinson The boys' track team from Grand County Hieh school traveled to two track meets last week. The first track meet took place in Ephraim at Snow College and was the 2A Region Track and Field Meet for Region 7. The boys left Moab on Tuesday, May 2, to stay overnight in Salina. The next morning they traveled travel-ed to Ephraim for the meet. This was a big meet for all the competitors in Region 7, because the first five places would automatically automa-tically qualify for state. Max Cunningham placed plac-ed first in the shot put and first in the discus for Moab. Lawaun Cunningham Cunning-ham placed third in the two-mile run, followed by his teammate, Greg Stuki, in fourth place. John Shannon placed first in the 880 yard run. Kenny Nielson placed fifth in shot put. Don Dalton placed fifth in the mile run. The second meet for Moab last week was the Brigham Young University Univer-sity Invitational Track and Field Meet. Five boys from Moab participated in the meet. Max Cunningham placed third in the shot and third in the discus. Max set a new G.C.H.S. record in the discus, hurling it 146' 7'2". Don Dalton, the surprising surpris-ing freshman, took third place in the mile run for Moab. Lawaun Cunningham Cunning-ham placed fifth in the two-mile run and John Shannon placed third in 880 yard run. The boys that will be traveling to the 2 A State Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 13, will be Max Cunningham, Lawaun La-waun Cunningham, Greg Stuki, Kenny Nielson, and Don Dalton. |
