Show Safety Group Elects Officers, Plans Permanent Operation A iwmnent Grand County S-.f.- fv- Council was formed at a meeting last Fndav night attended by over thirty local residents. Harilri ..coh5. Mnab c'-v councilman ".'ho has been spearheading efforts in preliminary pre-liminary planning for the meeting, was named chairman chair-man of the permanent group. Van We'ch, representing the Moab Lions Club, was elected elect-ed vice chairman, and Mrs. John Knop, secretary. Mr. Jacobs stated this week that the officers would meet soon to appoint a board of directors to begin formulating formulat-ing plans for Ihe Council. Attending the meeting wes Mr. Harvey Nelson, assistant assist-ant director of the Utah Safety Saf-ety Council, who talked to rhe group about the importance of having local councils working work-ing on a permanent bas'S. fo coordinate safety efforts with the State and National Safety Councils. Members of the audience re- viewed a film taken locally at the request of Mr. Jacobs by Bevcrlv Spencer, showing u'nsaf practices of children around the schools, with particular par-ticular er. phasis on school bus loading and unloading. A discussion followed. II. V. W. Donohoo led a discussion dis-cussion of the livestock on the highways problem, citing statistical information as to property damage loss in the Grand county area over the past several years. A number num-ber of alternatives were discussed dis-cussed by the group, and ir appeared tlr's would be one area the Safely Council would continue to work in. Another discunssion involved involv-ed the current problem of useage of alcohol by teenagers. teenag-ers. This, too, will be a continuing con-tinuing study of the Safety Council, Jacobs said. Subsequent meetings of the council and Board of Directors Direc-tors will be announced in tfe future, he. said.
