Show Here's a Lesson For Youth Of the ILS. By KITH MIIXETT A brilliant but poignant story recently re-cently in the newspapers tells how Domlnlrk Lachucha, 49, almost died of hunger clinging to his "self-respect." "self-respect." Most people feel there are some things they wouldn't do come high water. Domlnick had such a standard. He would not take food unless he could work to earn It. For five days he could not pay his way and so he didn't eat. He might have starved to death, the doctors said. If he hadn't collapsed in the street and been taken to a hospital, where he was too weak to fight. M . , Domlnick Lachucha carried his pride too far so far, in fact, that he was forced to accept more charity char-ity in the end because of that pride. But tn an age when his kind of pride is scarce, it is a touching story. And one that young folks could profit by. If they would temper tem-per their pride with reason. There are too many young people peo-ple today who would rather have their parents accept charity than provide for them. There are too many who don't mind moving In with the old folks, claiming that marriage is their right whether they can support a marriage or not. There are too many "chiselers" who think the more you can get for nothing the smarter you are. There are too many people trying try-ing to outsmart each other. I |
