Show Game Devices Reported Seen in Ogden As Salt Lake City police moved Wednesday to ban punch boards, declared the last gambling devices remaining in the city. Captain E. A. Hedman, chief of the antivice squad, reported seeing evidence of gambling in Ogden. "I was in Ogden Tuesday night on business and while there I saw punchboards, marble games and even slot machines In several establishments," Captain Hedman said. Captain Hedman said he "didn't know" about gambling in Salt Lake county outside of Salt Lake City limits, but declared "there will be no organized gambling of any kind in the city within a few days." Captain Hedman has Instructed members of his squad to warn merchants to stop display and use of punchboards. "It will probably take about two weeks to see all of the merchants In the city, after which we will take action against all those still using the boards," he said. Merchants, he said, are cooperating cooperat-ing In the drive to eliminate the punchboards and in many cases have taken them from their shelves and counters before contacted by a member of the antivice squad. |
