Show GIRLS RETURN FROMJUROPE Three Salt Lakers Will Arrive Tonight Three Salt Lake girls who served In the L. D. S. church French-Belgian French-Belgian mission field for 14 months will return home Friday night. .They are Evelyn Sylvia Carmen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Carmen of 660 Cox place; Frances Jeanne Ivory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Ivory of Salt Lake Ciy and Lone Tree, Wyo., and Edna E. Leaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Leaver of 1677 Princeton avenue. The girls left here In June, 19.18, 'for the mission field. They returned re-turned to America on the United States ship Washington, which docked in New York City the night of September 18. with more than 100 other missionaries. Their European experiences probably could fill a book, as proved by excerpts from a letter written In New York to her mother moth-er by Miss Carmen, who served most of her mission in Zurich, Switzerland, where many French citizens reside. She wrote: "The French are such good people, mother. I'm afraid some will get hurt by bombs' or bullets. I wanted to stay behind and help them." Her closing lines were: "It seems so strange to be In a city with lights after living In blackout." Miss Ivory's sunt, Mrs. John A. McDonald of 1740 Michigan avenue, ave-nue, will entertain at a family party for Frances Jeanne, her parents par-ents and other relatives late Friday Fri-day night. The trio Is scheduled to arrive at 11 p. m. on a Union Pacific railroad train. |
