Show JUDGE PROBES 'HANDLED' CASE Motorist Says He Paid $5 for 'Intercession' Investigation Into an alleged attempt at-tempt to intercede In a police court case was undertaken Friday by City Judge Reva - Beck Bosone after a defendant who was being sentenced told her a relative had paid $3 to have the case "handled." The defendant. Warren Sutton, 23, of 1381 Fourth East street, had previously admitted failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and was before the court Friday for sentence when he made the statement. Judge Bosone said the man to whom the tS was paid said the money was brought to his office in his absence. He took the money to an attorney, requesting the attorney at-torney to represent Sutton, he said. Judge Bosone, however, said she called the attorney by telephone and was Informed the attorney had not aeen the man for more than two months and had not received the $5 from him. The man who received the money said he was a witness to the accident and spoke to Sutton at the time. Sutton's arrest and subsequent sentencing grew out of an accident September 19 at First South and State streets when his machine struck and Injured a pedestrian. He was sentenced to pay a $25 fine or. serve eight days In Jail. |
