Show Nation's Chief Bans Talk of War Planning WASHINGTON, Sept 29 President Roosevelt told a press conference today that since the United States was not In the war and was not going Into It he saw no public Interest at this time In war and Industrial mobilisation plans being considered by various government and private boards. Frequent attempts by reporters to get he chief executive to talk about these war policy and Industrial Indus-trial preparedness plans evoked preaidental reiteration that such reports were brought up to date from time to time and since this country was not a party and did not Intend to become a party to the present conflict there was no reason to make public the reports. The president said army and navy boards prepare defense plans every year. Planning Constant From time to time, he added, special boards, such as the present war resources board, take up other phases that fit In with defense plans. There wss no controversy Involved In-volved In any of them, he said. Asked what the resources board would report on. he said the members mem-bers had .been studying the possibility possi-bility of Industrial expansion, location loca-tion and stepping up of industry, relationship of transportation to Industry, added power facilities, various forms of administrative handling, and the relationship of agriculture to Industry. Prices also had been Investigated, Investigat-ed, he added, with the idea that cost of living was not to be Increased In-creased and that prices were not going through the roof. Again and again he asserted such reports were based on the thought of America entering a war, but he emphasized, that this government had no such thought Changes Frequent The president said several days sgo that the resources board, headed head-ed by Edward R. Stettlnius Jr, chairman of United States Steel, would make Its report soon and then would be disbanded. |
