Show MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION Miss Roosevelt an Interested Inter-ested Spectator of New Orleans Carnival. NEW ORLEANS.' Feb. 24. Ideal weather marked the carnival celebration celebra-tion today. All the avenues traversed by the pageant were crowded with spectators. There was the usual number num-ber of promiscuous maskers. Good order or-der generally prevailed. Rex appeared before noon riding on a superb chariot at the head of the pageant. The subject he chose for illustration il-lustration was "Fetes aniTFeasts," and the Idea was presented In twenty-two floats. Mythology, Biblical lore and ancient an-cient literature furnished material for the designs. The costumes were artistic. artis-tic. Tonight Rex will meet his subjects at a reception in the carnival palace, where his queen will be Introduced to the multitude. The pageant of Comus and the ball following It at the French opera will conclude the festivities. Miss Roosevelt, Admiral Schley and Gen. Wheeler witnessed the parades today, to-day, and were the objects of much attention. at-tention. Miss Roosevelt and Miss Root will rest here tomorrow and on Thursday Thurs-day will go for a brief stay at Avery's UlanO. , |
