OCR Text I Final Concert Of Series Is I Enjoyed Coe Coc Glade leading contralto of the Chicago opera climaxed the season of concerts presented by the Civic Music association last night at the tile South high school auditorium No artist could have rounded out more effectively cly the brilliant series which the association has presented Miss Glade native Amerl American an youthful vibrant beautiful rose to her perihelion meteorically It needed only her performance here to reveal wh why Voices like hers are pitifully pIU piti fully ull uncommon Her personality added to this there is every re reason on I Vh why she should have won the recognition recognition that has been hers from the start The singer captivated her audience from the start There Is richness and color in her voice marvelous flexibility and to its natural beauty have been added the refinements of excellent excel excellent lent training and instruction She employs all the artifices known to singers to obtain fine effect without her audience being conscious of them There is an enchanting flow of purest tone and expressive diction that made her concert delightful throughout Miss Glades Glade's program is in itself a l masterpiece of selection from the choicest gems of song sons representative of many schools and offering wide range Perhaps her outstanding numbers numbers num bers were two songs from Carmen the and She donned the colorful costume of the characters and gave them charming rendition In by Mozart Miss Glade demonstrated the full richness rich rich- ness of her marvelous voice in singularly singularly beautiful style The singer substituted Mademoiselle selle Marie a n Louisiana slave girls girl's prayer to the virgin for one of her programmed numbers As encores she gave April Fool Homeland Mine by and Brahms number num nurn- ber among others each adding delight delight delight de de- de- de light to the program Willard Rhodes pianist and pIanist added much to the enjoyment of the concert His accompaniments were played with marked artistry and his own concert numbers were highlights on a beautiful program He played Dance of the Happy Spirits by Friedman Cluck in m C Major and Valse in A Flat by Brahms the last an encore encore en core number This was the last concert of the season season sea sea- son presented by the Civic Music association as as- successor of the Musical Arts society Music lovers of or the city may feel to congratulate themselves upon the success of ot the new organizations organizations tion's lions venture Throughout the season season sea sea- son the artists who have appeared have been outstanding in their pro pro- grams This augurs well veil for the he fuI future future fu fu- fu- fu ture of the concert stage here The I city is fortunate indeed that the Civic Music association wa was formed at the moment things appeared very dark in musical circles with the dissolution of the society which had striven valiantly vali valE antly over many years and with marked success
