Show s Engineer Reports Utah Lake To Be Health Hazard Utah lake was pronounced a serious hazard to fish and bird life and a health threat to humans living within the flight range of insects that swarm over it. This statement was made before civic and government leaders by John Carollo, consulting engineer of Phoenix, Ariz., who has been conducting a survey of the lake for the past year. The lake, Mr. Carollo stated, is in reality not a lake but a "big sludge lagoon." Although dangers to life can be reduced by proper correction and control measures, the lake will, in all likelihood, never again be suitable for consumption con-sumption or close human contact. The lake has been considered hazardous for swimmers for many years and prohibited for the past two. Cause of the polluted condition is laid to dumping of sewage from homes and farms that fringe the western shore of the lake and the lake's tributaries over the past years. Sewage Disposal Recommendation of Mr. Carol-lo's Carol-lo's firm was that industrial units and municipalities immediately commence programs designed to end sewage disposal in the lake without prior treatment. |
