Eggertsen of Springville had her fourth novel, "The Evening and the Morning" published the past week by Harcourt, Brace and Co. f i c iu:. Mrs. Korensen, iormeny ui una city is now living in Alabama, where her husband is an instructor instruct-or in the Alabama Polytechnic Inr stitute and where also Mrs. Sor-ensen Sor-ensen is conducting classes in journalism jour-nalism and creative writing. Graduating from the Brigham Young University, Mrs. Sorensen spent the greater portion of earlier life in Utah, where she heard and read many stories connected with the early settlement of this state. And this experience together with the research work she has done in more recent years, gives her the setting and theme of her novels thusfar. Kate Alexander is the principal character in her newest book, which deals with the life of a young girl married to a middle-aged middle-aged man. When kate appears in the story, she is already old and widowed and her warm love story is told in retrospect;-, how Peter Janson was her lover through the years she was married to the older old-er Karl; how Dessie, her daughter was Peter's child and the effects of this relationship upon the entire en-tire family including Kate's unsuspecting un-suspecting granddaughter, Jean. The incident of the visit of the "ward teachers", with their "dutiful "duti-ful air", and their entertainment on the porch by church members as the house smells of recent coffee-brewing is typical of the treatment treat-ment of various Mormon or would-be would-be Mormon characters throughout through-out the book. Preceding publications by the author include: A Little Lower Than the Angels"; "On This Star" and "The Neighbors". |
